Fancy-color diamond prices increased in the third quarter of 2022, driven by gains in all hue segments, with yellows seeing the strongest growth, according to the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF).

The Fancy Color Diamond Index advanced 1% compared with the second quarter and was 3.4% higher than during the third quarter of 2021, the organization said last week. The climb contrasted with the trend in white diamonds, which declined 7%, FCRF explained. The RapNet Diamond Index (RAPI™) for 1-carat diamonds dropped 9.7% in the third quarter.

Prices of yellow fancy-color diamonds increased 1.4% compared with the previous quarter, while pinks rose 0.9% and blues advanced 0.6%. The best performers were fancy-vivids across all color categories, led by 8-carat fancy-vivid pinks, which jumped 5.5%. In the top spot for yellows were 8-carat, fancy-vivid diamonds, gaining 4%, while 2-carat stones had the highest climb for fancy-vivid blues, up 2.6%.

In the last 12 months, yellows in all sizes and saturations rose 3.4%, blues grew 1.8% and pinks climbed 3.7%.

The index tracks prices of yellow, pink and blue fancy-color diamonds in Hong Kong, New York, Geneva and Tel Aviv.
